CHARACTER INFO

Journal: [personal profile] thegirlwhodrowned
Name: Ophelia
Age: Unspecified in game, I tend to pin her at mid-30’s.
Canon: Brütal Legend
Canon Point: After the battle at the dry ice mines.

Canon World

Brütal Legend takes place in a world where heavy metal is power, where music can be used for war. Guitars solos used to summon cars, bass strings can heal when you play the right song, and the fans supporting you mean life or death in battle. There is a literal black sea made of grief from a goddess crying herself to death over accidentally killing another god. The game plays on the inherent humor of the premise as well as the drama it can elicit.

More or less, The Land of Metal is a love letter to the heavy metal genre. The Land of Metal is rife with anachronisms for comedy and rule of cools sake. I.e they have beer, but it grows on a sacred beer tree.

In a world based on metal iconography, there are three factions: the Tainted Coil operated by S&M clad demons, Ironheade by the humans, and the Drowning Doom by the undead. Each one represents a specific genre of metal/mood. The Coil run the lands with Ironheade rising up against them, and a cast-out member of Ironheade begins the Doom after her betrayal.

History

I'll offer you two links, since Ophelia technically is split into being a hero character and then one of the main villains.

Ophelia

Drowned!Ophelia

Outside of in-game events/what is specified, Ophelia's past is shrouded in some mystery. All the players known upon arrival is she's part of the human rebellion, maybe dating Lars and eager to free humanity from enslavement.

Personality

To say Ophelia is bitter would be an understatement. Her biggest motivation is revenge against Eddie Riggs, against Ironheade. Grief, and rage fuel her need to continue. Being left in the middle of nowhere to die by the man she loved has only made Ophelia turn all of her natural energy and dedication to making sure Eddie feels half of what she felt. Ophelia has always been a person of action, a person who pours herself into whatever she sets her mind to. Ophelia is someone who fiercely dedicates herself to a cause she believes in. She won't stop until she achieves her goal.

Even under her much colder/deader exterior, Ophelia still is someone who cares passionately about other people. Before things went south, Ophelia was fiercely protective of her Razor Girls (women who she freed from The Pleasure Tower) and was very willing to die to help them be free. That aspect of her personality hasn't changed, merely shifted directions. She raised people from the sea itself, trained them, cared for them, and earned their trust. When it comes to people, Ophelia wants companionship but knows its unlikely people will accept her. She knows everyone has an ulterior motive under the surface. Her once open belief in people has soured due to her experiences with Ironheade. She'll approach cautiously expecting the worst of others until proven wrong. Betrayal is not something she'll tolerate in any measure. Once crossed she nurses a grudge deeply, which can be hard to earn forgiveness for.

Being left behind has forced Ophelia to finally acknowledge what she was afraid of for so long, abandonment, isolation, being shunned for her past. She tried so hard for so long to fit in, to never rock the boat. Some small part of herself still fears being abandoned again by people she's placed her trust in. She turns this fear into motivation to continue, to tear apart the world to make it a better place. She turns her fear into power, into motivation to live, and live regardless of what anyone else wants of her. Ophelia intends to get her way from now on and thrive.

Special Abilities

-Tears Coated Fists: Ophelia has forgone traditional weaponry. Instead, she actively uses her fists to fight. She strikes out in waves of black sticky water or directly hits hard enough to stagger a man twice her size. She can also use the sea to sharpen her fingers into a cutting edge. With enough force she can pretty much beat someone into a pulp or cut their head off of their body in game.

-She's Literally Dead/Coated in human suffering: Ophelia jumped into the sea, and in her mixture of grief/rage was broken into two parts. The real Ophelia who sleeps under the water, and Drowned Ophelia who emerged ready to seek revenge. She's technically just a lot of emotions in human shape. Ophelia is very much a very angry puddle.

I am more than fine with the mods deciding she's now living and requires like, food and water to survive. Right now she's just water and emotions that reflect Ophelia's personality/emotional state.

-Tear Shields: Ophelia can use the sea to make a protective shield against blows.

-Flight: Ophelia can summon wings made of tears to fly during a stage battle.

-Guitar solos: Every faction leader in game has specific guitar solos that help them during stage battles. Ophelia can manifest her guitar and play any of the solos listed below.

Summon Hearse: Summoning her car to her current location.
Silence: When played this solo wraps enemy faction leaders heads in bandages to keep them from commanding their troops for a short period of time.
Black Tear Infusion: When played this solo heals nearby units/allies as rose petals sway through the air.
Shadow Blast: When played, this solo causes tears to gather tightly under her and blast outwards to knock back enemy opponents. Coats her enemies in black tears, reduces their attacks.
Encompassing Gloom: This Solo blocks enemy factions from building their army/making new units. It turns the moon into a skull, darkening the skyline as well.
Baleful Misdirection: When played this solo makes a phantom appear next to Ophelia, she can pick its form and use it to distract her enemies from what she's really doing. The phantom cannot deal any damage.
Veil of Deceit: When played this solo produces a fog that obscures Ophelia's units/allies from enemies.
Weeping Heavens: This solo when played causes black tears to be launched from Ophelia's stage to her current location in a barrage of eyeballs that coat whatever it lands on in black tears.

This does not include a list of Ophelia's Double Teams, which are a gameplay mechanic where she teams up with one of her units to perform a more powerful attack. Each Double Team is different depending on her units (also different between factions). When Ophelia teams up with one of her units, she's using their skill set and upping their abilities with her own.

Examples: Ophelia waltzes with a Bride, is able to summon lightning from the cloud over the bride's head to attack enemy units. Ophelia asks to be buried by a Gravedigger, once under the ground she speeds under the dirt to launch out of the ground and cause splash damage on enemy units.
